Forum on the Open Space Tax Diversion Ballot Initiative on August 7th

The Hillsborough Democratic Alliance will meet on Wednesday, August 7th, 2013, beginning at 6:45 PM at the Avalon Assisted Living Center, 393 Amwell Road, Hillsborough.  Representatives from BoroGreen, the Sourlands Conversancy, and the Stony Brook-Millstone Watershed Association have been invited and are expected to participate in a forum on the November ballot initiative that would allow the Township Committee to divert up to 20% of the tax money that comes in every year for acquisition of open space land to the development of open space lands. What the money would be used for is very vague in the initiative.   The Forum will discuss the initiative, the role and purposes of open spaces in Hillsborough, and consider the position of the Alliance on this ballot initiative.   While this is a non-partisan issue, the organizations raising the issues deserve to be heard by all community-focused organizations, such as the Alliance.   All Democrats and others are welcome to attend.  Recently published articles on this topic are  posted  on facebook at Hillsborough Democratic Alliance or can be found on www.hillsboroughpatch.com, www.hillsboroughbeacon.com, or http://www.nj.com/somerset/index.ssf/2013/07/hillsborough_will_a   sk_voters_to_divert_open_space_funds_to_recreation_in_november_election.html#incart_river  .  Refreshments will be served  beginning at 6:30,  and the meeting will start at 6:45.

After the forum, there will be a brief open discussion of the candidate choices and logistics for the upcoming August 13th Democratic Primary for US Senate.

Hope to see all Democrats, progressives, open space advocates and others on Wednesday.
