Hillsborough High School Winterguard Show to be Held Feb. 2

13th Annual Hillsborough High School Winterguard Show on Feb. 2.

The Hillsborough Band Parents Association will be hosting its 13th Annual Winterguard Show at the high school main gym on Saturday February 2nd .  The show will be attended by a total of 34 competing winterguards starting with the Middle School guards at 4:30pm and moving up through the classes to conclude with exhibition performances by both of our own Hillsborough guards. Winterguard is an indoor colorguard activity derived from the outdoor activity that is part of the high school marching band. For this activity, instead of performing as a visual accent to the marching band, each winterguard team picks its own music to perform to. The winterguard teams are judged on talent, precision and creativity. There are multiple ways that winterguards perform using various equipment, including flags, rifles and sabers, props and dance moves to enhance their shows.

Hillsborough has a reputation for hosting a very well organized show with great food being served for the hungry spectators. It is truly exciting to watch all the guards compete within their categories.  Spectators can come any time during the Show for an entrance fee of $10, students and seniors $7.

The Hillsborough Scholastic A Winterguard’s 2013 show is titled “Rise Above It All.” The production expresses hope, which is defined as the ability to cherish a desire with anticipation or expectation of obtainment, and explores the inner feelings of one’s souls. At its conclusion, it shows that even in the presence of pain and despair, HOPE will always help you Rise Above it All. The Hillsborough Scholastic Novice Winterguard’s 2013 show is titled “Back to You.” The show presents gravity as the natural force of attraction that attracts the body toward a centripetal force and that as much as you may want to defy the laws, Gravity will always prevail.

In 2012 the Scholastic A Winterguard were silver medalists at WGI Regionals in Trumbull, CT, power regional finalists at WGI Regionals in South Brunswick, NJ and semi-finalists at the WGI World Championships in Dayton, Ohio. One reason for the Winterguard’s success is the members’ intense dedication and loyalty to the program.  This year we welcome a new guard director, DJ Deans, and his staff to lead the guard through another successful season.

Any support from our township and our community is welcome and much appreciated.  Donations to support the band and guard programs at HHS can be sent to the Hillsborough Band Parents Association c/o June Blauvelt, 92 Rivendell Road.  We thank our Diamond Sponsor, Macy’s, and the Gold Sponsors of our show – Allstate Rittenhouse Agency, Bench Fashion Floors, Harlingen Veterinary Clinic, Jules & Mr. F, Safety First Driving School and Somerset Orthopedic Associates, and our Silver Sponsors, Petrock’s Bar & Grille and Tink’s Magical Vacations. We also thank all of the local businesses and Hillsborough residents for their continued support of our wonderful band and guard programs.
