Winter Recreation Programs & Spring Sports Leagues Registration Opens Wednesday

Winter recreation program information available in new brochure

The Hillsborough Department of Parks and Recreation issued the Winter Program Brochure today, with registration beginning tomorrow for programs and spring sports leagues.

The season offers many exciting programs for children of all ages and abilities.  Adults also have a range of activities to choose from.

One of the most popular programs is Winter Sports Fun, for children ages 3 to 6.  Held on Wednesdays in January and February, the children will learn fundamentals and techniques in a variety of different sports.

A new program for the winter is Boys and Girls Volleyball for 6th to 8th graders.  Children will be taught basic skills of volleyball, which will lead into friendly, recreational game play.

A second new program is First Roots Music and Movement, in which children newborn to age 5 will be in an interactive environment with singing, dancing, instrument play, props, and stories.

Other children's programs include Biddy Basketball (Co-Ed, 1st-3rd grade), Futsal (Co-Ed, 6th-8th grade), and Sports Fitness (Co-Ed, 4th-12th grade).

Adult programs include informal, recreational volleyball and basketball open gym.  Senior programs offered are aquatic exercise, floral design, and a trip to the Philadelphia Flower Show.

Registration for spring soccer and girls spring softball leagues also will begin on Wednesday.  Co-Ed Spring Soccer will begin on April 12, with games on Saturdays and practices during the week.  Girls Spring Softball will begin practices on March 31, with the season beginning on April 26.

Registration begins Wednesday, November 27.  Residents may register online, by phone, or in-person during normal business hours.  The sign-ups will close once programs fill, so be sure to register early to guarantee a spot.

A full copy of the brochure is available on the Parks and Recreation website.
