Hillsborough Library Has Reading Club For Every Age

'Explore the Night' by getting into a great read, and win prizes, too.

Stop by the , a branch of the Somerset County Library System, this summer and take advantage of all the library has to offer! There are Summer Reading Clubs for all ages (preschool, school-aged, teens and adults) with chances to win prizes! The registration for all Summer Reading Clubs begins on Monday, June 18 and once again we invite Hillsborough residents of all ages to sign up and get started on their summer reading! The clubs will run through Saturday, Sept. 8.

For preschool, school-aged and teen summer reading clubs, stop by the Children’s Services desk to sign up. We are once again offering a “Read With Me” preschool summer reading club for birth through age 4. Sign up your preschool child and continue them on the road to reading. The “Dream Big – Read” school-aged club is for kids entering grades K-5. The teen club “Own the Night" is for teens entering grades 6-12. Each club member will receive reading logs to keep track of reading and instructions that tell about the many ways to win prizes, including raffles and a grand prize drawing at the end of the summer. For the preschoolers and school-age kids, the grand prizes are a life-size stuffed bear and a Meade telescope. For the teens the grand prize is a Kindle Touch 3G with WiFi!

Throughout the summer there are a variety of contests including weekly trivia questions, “Name the Mascot” and “Find Buddy.” The Heyns Study stated that “the number of books read during the summer is consistently related to academic gains.” Sign up and fuel your brain by reading all summer long!

Sign up for the adult summer reading club “Between the Covers” at the Adult Services Desk! You’ll get instructions and a reading log to keep track of what you read this summer. Each person who registers will receive a mood pencil, a complimentary raffle ticket, and a free book. Participants will receive a tote bag after reading three books and notating them in their book logs. Great prizes like gift cards (Bed, Bath, and Beyond, Panera Bread, Dunkin Donuts, Shell Gas, and ShopRite) will be awarded bi-weekly beginning July 2. At the end of the summer a grand prize drawing will be held for a SONY Reader. Be a role model for your children by reading for yourself this summer! Remember, children read more when they see adults reading!

Brochures of summer programs are available at all public service desks, and are also available on our online calendar (www.sclsnj.org). There are programs throughout the summer geared for various age groups. In the Children’s Department, our theme is “Dream Big–Read @ Your Library,” and we are offering many exciting programs throughout the summer.
