Hillsborough Township Partners with Somerset Medical Center to Host Blood Drive on April 23rd

“Hillsborough Township is once again partnering with Somerset Medical Center and hosting a Blood Drive,” announced Mayor Doug Tomson.  The Blood Drive will take place on Wednesday, April 23rd from 2-7 p.m. at the Peter J. Biondi Building located at 379 South Branch Road.  All donors will receive a free cholesterol screening and be entered into a drawing to win a $25 restaurant gift card.

The drive will be conducted by Somerset Medical Center as part of the hospital’s mobile blood collection program. This event is a special opportunity for neighbors to help neighbors; all blood collected at the drive will stay within the community to be used by patients at Somerset Medical Center. Each pint of blood carries the potential to save two lives.

The blood donation process is safe, efficient and takes approximately 45 minutes. Donors must be at least 17 years old and weigh 110 lbs. (Donors who are 16 may donate with parental consent and need to weigh at least 120 lbs.)  Photo identification is also required.  You may not donate if you have a history of viral hepatitis at age 11 or older, are recovering from an infectious illness, are in a high risk group (such as individuals with HIV or AID or spent a total of three months or more in the United Kingdom between 1980 and 1996.
