Jr. Raiders Varsity and JV Remain Undefeated in the Skylands Division

Skylands Division Varsity (Grades 7-8)

The Hillsborough Jr. Raiders Varsity defense led the team to victory against previously undefeated Bridgewater Jr. Panthers Saturday Night. The Jr. Raiders stout defense and steady offense shut out the Bridgewater Jr. Panthers, 16-0.

The defense never allowed Bridgewater to get close to scoring. It was a great team effort great led by Jackson Parham (6 tackles, 1 interception, 2 passes deflected), Ryan Wheaton (7 tackles, 1 Pass Deflection), Patrick Vinchur (6 tackles, 1 pass deflection), Jack Edwards (6 Tackles, 1 sack) and J. J. Bagdan (3 tackles, 1 Interception).  Also contributing to the shut out effort were Tyler Boatwright, Brian Reilly, Charles Amankwaa, J. R. Metallo, Greg Koll, Tyler Minter, Brandon Melendez, Chris Kimock and Tom Zdroik - all instrumental in stopping Bridgewater's high- powered offense.

The offensive line of Pat Vinchur, Ryan Wheaton, Nolan Washburn, Greg Koll, Jack Edwards, Brandon Melendez and Tom Zdroik opened holes all night for Tyler Boatwright (12 Carries, 74 yards, 1 TD), Tyler Minter (7 Carries, 31 yards, 1 TD), Jackson Parham (6 carries, 70 yards) behind the blocking of Fullback Brian Reilly (3 carries, 11 yards). Matt Moore added to the offensive attack, including a long 33-yard completion to Patrick Vinchur.

J. R. Metallo led the special teams unit with 2 extra-point kicks and kept Bridgewater off balance with his kick-off and punting including a long punt of 45 yards that pinned the Jr Panthers deep in their own end.

The undefeated Jr. Raiders Varsity team next face Voorhees in Voorhees on Saturday October 26th at 7:30.

Skylands Division Junior Varsity (Grades 5-6)

In a hard fought battle, the Jr. Raiders Skyland's JV team defeated their archrival Bridgewater Jr. Panthers, 30-19, Saturday night at Hillsborough High School. The Raiders overcame a pair of turnovers, using their trademark balanced game, getting a full effort from all three phases of the team - offense, defense, and special teams.

Offensively, Boro was paced by the mercurial running of Matt Michinard, who notched his 2nd consecutive 100+ yard game, (11 carries, 118 yards), and the bruising inside running of Tommy Ramsey (11 carries for 80 yards). The multi-tasking Alex Marsh added 48 yards rushing and 2 receptions for 15 yards. The Jr. Raiders had their best offensive night of the season with 249 yards rushing and a timely 38 passing yards.

Defensively, Boro had its hands full with a traditionally strong rushing attack of the Jr. Panthers. Middle linebacker Mike Swetz led 11 different Boro defenders in tackles with 10 total (3 solo), aided by LB Alex Marsh contributing 6 tackles (5 solo), DE Kevin Klein with 6 stops (3 solo), and Cornerback Tommy Ramsey with 4 solo shots. The D-line was again disruptive, with Gerard Redden, Ric Sarkar, and Aiden Bremer all notching Tackles for Loss.

Once again, Tommy Ramsey was a difference making weapon, kicking 3 extra points worth 6 points. In the return game, Marsh and Michinard combined for 85 return yards. Not to be overlooked was the big play authored by Clayton Bonsignore - recovering Bridgewater's surprise onsides kick off following their last score.

The undefeated Jr. Raiders look forward to travelling to Voorhees next Saturday to face the Jr. Vikings.

Patriot Division Junior Varsity (Grades 5-6)

The Jr. Raider JV White team faced the Ridge JV White team at the Triangle Road Complex.  The Ridge White team got out to a 18-point lead before Kevin Rolon scored a TD for the Jr. Raiders to make the final score 18-6 Saturday afternoon.  Game MVP for the Jr. Raiders was Jordan Nussbaum.

The Hillsborough Jr. Raider JV Red suffered their first loss on Saturday.  The Red Raiders offense struggled in the first half against a stubborn Hillsborough Jr. Raider JV Blue defense.   Although they did get on track in the second half, they just couldn't get it in the end zone. Thomas Amankwaa had six carries for 43 yards, defensively he was in on seven tackles and had a fumble recovery. Brendan Harding had 8 carries for 34 yards.

Ryan Diaz had three solo tackles for the Red team. Linemen Connor Schultz, Cal Wilson, Evan Swearingen and Sam Beni combined for 11 tackles as a unit. Dylan Valis was in on six tackles.

The playoffs start next week, the Red Raiders earned the #2 spot and will host the #3 seeded Ridge JV White team (6-1). Offensive lineman Cal Wilson was asked how he felt about being the #2 seed in the playoffs. His answer was simple "you get what you get, and you don't get upset."  Game MVP for the JV Red team was Brendan Harding.

Division III (Grades 3-4)

The Princeton Tigers played an exciting game against a strong UConn Huskies team at the Triangle Road Complex.  Princeton was effective on offense with positive yardage gained by Matt and Aiden Lang and touchdowns by Michael Kondratuik and Tanner Boczon. Ryan Vierbuchen achieved another touchdown during a punt return. Luke Cahill succeeded in converting two PATs to add to the Tigers successful day. The Tigers played solid defense with notable tackles by Dom Bonsignore, Owen Albert and Brett Radomski to come out on top by the score of 20-0.

Flag (Grades 1-2)

It was a perfect night for football when the Jr. Raider flag Vikings and Raiders played through a tough defensive battle under the lights on Wednesday, October 16th. The Vikings were led by Gabe Daly with 4 tackles (flag pulls) - one of them for a 7-yard loss.  Viking James Ruh also had 4 pulls followed by Matt Gaspar, Ryan Soli and Drew Kipila with 3 each. Kipila also stopped the extra point attempt of the Raiders, after the only score of the evening. Rounding out the strong defensive effort for the Vikings were Sanav Sathish (2 pulls), Nadia Siwiec (2 pulls) and Jack Storipan (2 pulls). On Viking offense, Matt Gaspar had a 50-yard run behind solid blocking from Brady Porter and Daniel Allen.  Christian Wallens also contributed with a 20-yard run in the second half.

The flag Vikings returned on Saturday to face the flag Steelers.  The flag teams played a great back-and-forth game on a cool, fall Saturday morning.  The Viking defense was led by Tommy Rice, James Ruh and Ryan Soli, each with 5 tackles (flag pulls). Damian Candon, Eli Verse, Daniel Allen and Hudson Ruh also contributed with 3 tackles. Collin DePace had two tackles, where one was for a safety. On offense, the Vikings were led by Gabe Daly and Matt Gaspar who each scored touchdowns from 20 yards and 60 yards, respectively. Collin DePace kept a crucial drive going with a 55-yard run up the middle behind great blocking from Liam Gallagher and Ryan Soli.
