Veterans Get a Salute at Triangle School

Students and staff members give thanks to sons, daughters, fathers and grandfathers who have served.

Triangle School marked Veterans Day with a special tribute to family members who have served in the military, from grandfathers and parents of students to husbands, fathers and sons of school staff members.

The celebration began with a processional led by students Jenna Bevan and Austin Rehman. The fourth-graders carried in the flags as they led the visiting veterans into the gymnasium.

Assembly highlights included the introduction of over 35 veterans, a photo story narrated by students, and the students performing several patriotic songs in honor of the attending veterans.

Following the assembly, the veterans and their families attended a reception held in their honor in the school’s library.

“Our Veterans Day Celebration is a yearly tradition here at Triangle. It is our pleasure to be able to honor the service of local veterans while providing our students with a sense of what it means to be a good citizen and give of oneself to help your community,” said Lisa Heisel, principal of Triangle Elementary School.

During the assembly, the visiting veterans were given a certificate and special wristband by their school family members, whether a grandchild, child—or parent.

The special guests included Charles Boyce, Stephen Cartmell, Michael Casserta, James Caudle, Tom Cavagnaro, Tom Comyack, James Davison, Patrick DeCherico, Gene DePace, Steve Guinaud, Norman Johnson, Walter Kujawski, Becky and Jon Lapidow, Neil Lotierzo, Frank Malik, Keith Marley, Robert McCray, Charles Meyers, Ronald Miller, Paul Nelson, Joseph Ortu, Richard Popowski, Walter Vernon, Michael Von Spreckelsen, Tom Westhusin, Dan Wistuk, Robert Wollenberg, Lee Woodmansee and Walter Wronski.

The Veterans Day celebration also included a donation to the Wounded Warrior Project by the school made in honor of the vets.
