Hula-Hooping Runner Joins Steps Together's Resolution Run Team

New Year's tradition will benefit Project Graduation and other local nonprofits.

A story posted today on NJ.com announced Kingwood resident Celia Arthur—best known in Hillsborough for her appearances in past Resolution Runs spinning a hula-hoop as she runs—will return as part of a team supporting Steps Together.

The Resolution Run is an annual Hillsborough tradition, drawing as many as 600 participants to the New Year's Day event benefitting Project Graduation and other local nonprofits.

Arthur told NJ.com that she discovered she has "a knack for moving easily while performing the gyrations necessary for keeping a hula hoop in motion. 'I got into running very backwards,' she says. 'I started off walking with a hula hoop and realized I had to train harder if I wanted to move faster (and finish faster) … and now I can run, too. I’m doing my first half-marathon in the spring — no hoop.'"

Fellow runners have been amazed at her dexterity, although Arthur spends much of her time running urging others to watch out for her hula-hoops—which may be the perfect "in" for her to talk about Steps Together.

The local group helps provide support for families with children and adults facing medical challenges. Recent projects by Steps Together include a 5K organized by the groups itself, a vendor sale at Pheasant's Landing and the Dec. 21 run by the "Elf on a Shelf" (Mike Newman).

The 13th annual Resolution Run will begin at 11 a.m. at the municipal complex.
