ARIS Students Shoot—and Score—in 'Hoops for Heart' Project

Raise more than $20,000 for American Heart Association.

This year’s Hoops for Heart event at Auten Road Intermediate School was a huge success, according to organizers, with the students raising $20,000.55 for the American Heart Association.

Proceeds from this event will help fund research and educational programs to increase awareness and prevention of heart disease and stroke.

The ARIS Health and Physical Education teachers have been supporting the American Heart Association through the Hoops for Heart event since the school opened.

The HPE staff teaches their students how important it is for them to advocate for a cause they believe in, and since most of the kids have expressed knowing a family member or friend who has suffered from one or both of these illnesses, this cause seems to be the perfect choice.

The team is ecstatic about the success of this year’s event and wants to thank all of the students for their dedication toward their fundraising efforts.

They also want to thank the students’ families and friends for helping to make this year’s event a positive experience for the kids.

"They had a lot of fun during the week-long fitness activities and enjoyed learning about the importance of physical activity in creating a healthy lifestyle as well as learning how they can play a role in helping to save peoples’ lives," Auten Road teacher Sylvia Scozzari said.
