Kingston Historical Society Annual Meeting: Illustrated Talk about Princeton Nurseries by William Fl

Following a brief business meeting, William Flemer IV

will give an illustrated talk on Princeton Nurseries.
Grandson of the

Nurseries' founder and son of renowned plantsman William

Flemer III, he will offer a uniquely personal history of the family

business.

Princeton Nurseries' Kingston
Site ultimately encompassed over 1,200 acres in South Brunswick,
Plainsboro and Franklin Townships.  The Kingston Site
closed in 1995, but over 240 acres have been preserved as a cultural landscape for the benefit of all.

In
its 85-year history here, Princeton Nurseries introduced important
plant varieties including the legendary, disease-resistant Princeton
Elm, the
‘October Glory’ Maple, and the ‘Snow Queen’ Hydrangea,
many of which still grow on former Princeton Nurseries property.
Innovative horticultural practices and technologies were developed here
that are still used today. Prototypes for many of the tools and
equipment used were fabricated in the nursery workshops on Mapleton
Road.

William Flemer IV is the Farm Manager for D&R Greenway at St. Michael's Farm Preserve in Hopewell.

All are welcome to this free event.  Refreshments will be served.
