Guided Tours of Period Rooms at Macculloch Hall Historical Museum

This July, on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays from 1:00 - 4:00PM, enjoy docent-led tours through the period rooms at Macculloch Hall Historical Museum (MHHM) to learn the history of the Macculloch family and W. Parsons Todd, the philanthropist who transformed this family home into a museum with a superb collection of fine English and American decorative arts.

During tours visitors will view a variety of decorative art pieces as well as the Museum's collection of original artwork by caricaturist Thomas Nast. Nast, a well-known political cartoonist who popularized the Democratic Donkey and the Republican Elephant, also contributed to America’s contemporary image of Santa Claus. Macculloch Hall Historical Museum has the largest collection of Nast originals in the nation.  The Museum currently has on display “Thomas Nast Brings Down Boss Tweed”, in the second floor Thomas Nast Gallery.  The exhibit features over twenty examples of the political cartoons Thomas Nast created attacking Boss Tweed and Tammany Hall.

Also on display in the second floor gallery is “Made in New Jersey: A Celebration of Decorative and Fine Arts”. The exhibit honors the 350th New Jersey Anniversary and showcases the Museum’s collection of New Jersey stoneware, silver, and the work of artists such as Thomas Nast, A.B. Frost and Edward Kranich. There are also over twenty historic Morristown postcards featured in the exhibit all of which date from around the turn of the twentieth century. The collection focuses on Morristown sites including churches, historic locations and railroad stations.

MHHM is open for guided tours and visits to exhibits on Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday afternoons from 1pm – 4pm. The last tour ticket is sold at 3pm.  The historic gardens are also open (free of charge) Monday to Friday 9am - 4pm and Sundays 1pm - 4pm unless posted otherwise.  Visitors can purchase a ticket to visit any of the changing exhibits at the Museum or can enjoy the galleries before or after their room tours.  Tickets are $8 for adults, $6 for Seniors & Students and children 6 – 12 are $4. Members and children under 5 are free. The Museum gift shop is also open during touring hours and visitors can find a selection of Thomas Nast items, as well as a wide range of local history books and other gifts. Guided tours leave throughout touring hours, with the last tour ticket sold at 3pm. The galleries and gift shop are open until 4pm.

This July Macculloch Hall Historical Museum presents the popular Summer Concerts in the Garden Series on Sundays at 4pm.
