Upcoming Library Programs Provide Well-Being Information

Two programs in May address mental health issues, and avoiding stress and tension.

The Hillsborough Library will be closed on May 14 for Staff Development Day, and open from 12:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. onMay 25 following the Hillsborough Memorial Day Parade.

Saturday, May 25

Celebrate Memorial Day by marching with the Hillsborough Public Library in the Hillsborough Memorial Day Parade! We'll have a great time together as we walk the parade route from Auten Road to New Amwell Road to Beekman Lane and end at the Municipal Complex, a distance of about 1.5 miles. Enjoy the community spirit and be a part of something special! The parade begins at 10:30 am on Saturday, May 25 and lasts about an hour. Stay afterward at the Municipal Complex for a moving tribute to our Veterans in the Garden of Honor. Please note that children under 17 must be accompanied by an adult. Book Sales:
Did you know that the Friends of the Hillsborough Library have daily book sales?? DVDs, CDs and hardcover books are only $1. Paperbacks, records, children’s books and magazines are only 25 cents! VHS tapes are FREE! May Special: Children’s Books are 20 cents each!

Adult Services Programs from May 13 through May 25:

ESL Conversation Group – May 13 and May 20 at 7 p.m.
Sign up for our mixed gender ESL Conversation Group sponsored by Somerset County Literacy Volunteers. Must know basic English. Last Day is May 20!  
Helping a Loved One With Mental Health Issues – May 15 at 12 p.m.
This presentation will cover how to help a loved one seek out professional care.  A short review of how the mental health system works and how you can navigate through the maze.  We will cover the major reasons people seek help and how it appears through a person's life cycle. Presented by Robyn Marks, Certified Prevention Specialist, Princeton House.
Stress Busters: Wave Goodbye to Your Stress and Tension – May 16 at 7 p.m.
Dr Laura DeMarzo, Ed.D and Linda Ritter, LCSW, from The Center for Psychological Services will guide you through techniques to improve health and well being. This workshop will help individuals learn techniques for stress management and living a healthy emotional life. Participants should bring a mat or towel for meditation exercises.
Friday Night Movie: Lincoln – May 17 at 7 p.m.
Starring: Daniel Day-Lewis, Sally Field, David Strathairn. Rated PG-13.
Zumba – May 20 at 7 p.m.
Join us for an energizing six week series! Mon. 5/20, Wed. 5/29, Mon. 6/03, Mon. 6/10, Mon. 6/17 and Mon. 6/24.  As long as you're moving and having fun, there is no wrong way to Zumba! Please remember to bring water and wear comfortable clothing. Please note:  all classes are on Monday evenings except for Wed. May 29.
Interviewing Skills and Networking – May 21 at 7 p.m.
Learn how to improve your interviewing and networking skills for your job search.  Presented by Lisa Chenofsky Singer, Executive, Leadership, & Career Management Coach, Chenofsky Singer & Associates.
Book Discussion: “The World of Downton Abbey” by Jessica Fellowes – May 23 at 3 p.m.
Are you just getting started or are you fully drawn into the world of Downton Abbey?  Then this discussion group is for you!  We will explore that era in the book, 'The World of Downton Abbey', discuss past and current episodes, view DVD clips, and have guest speakers.  This group will meet bi-monthly for tea and conversation.

Kindermusik with Ms. Jenni  – Newborn to 3 years – May 20 at 10 a.m.
Join Kindermusik's Ms. Jenni for quality entertaining music that helps your child develop language, literacy, social and listening skills in a fun, nurturing, family-friendly setting.
Tail Waggin’ Tutors – Grades K-4 ONLY – May 20 at 4 p.m.
This is Therapy Dog International's Program: Children Reading to Dogs! Spend time reading to Xena, a TDI certified dog! Each registered child will get 10 special minutes practicing reading skills while Xena listens. Online registration is NOT available for this program – call or stop by the Children’s Desk. Please arrive early – if you are late for your time slot you will lose your spot! 
Early Reader Book Club – Grades K-2 – May 21 at 4 p.m.
An exciting program for brand-new readers! At each program we will discuss the book, do some activities and make a craft. Please be sure to read the book before the program. Copies will be available at the Children's Desk. This program: 'Cowgirl Kate and Cocoa: Partners' by Erica Silverman
Anime Club – Grades 8-12 – May 23 at 5 p.m.
Hang out with your friends as we watch anime, discuss the latest manga and more!
