Township Trick-or-Treating Friday

Rescheduled activities due to Sandy coincide with school district's events.

More than two weeks after Halloween, trick-or-treating will finally come to Hillsborough on Friday.

The activity is scheduled to take place from 2 to 9 p.m. in the township. The township originally announced the change on Nov. 3, saying it would also align with the district's school festivities.

The change came after Hurricane Sandy, a post-tropical cyclone by the time it hit Hillsborough, swept through the area. A statement by the township said that the change allowed for the continued clean up and restoration efforts to ensure children's safety.

The township originally pushed back trick-or-treating to Nov. 5, per Gov. Chris Christie's executive order. But statement from the township on Nov. 2 said that Halloween activities continued to be postponed due to ongoing safety concerns related to power outages, downed trees, and downed wires in neighborhoods.

Sandy at one point had caused 60 road closures and has left more than half of the township without power.
