Spring Break and a Business Summit This Week

Township plans Wednesday event to smooth business development planning.

Ask four people who've opened a business in Hillsborough, and odds are three will complain about the challenges of meeting construction code requirements.

Some of the issues may be avoidable with better communication between township officials and builders—and a summit set for Wednesday morning is aimed at helping with that.

“In our ongoing effort to be a business friendly community, the purpose of the business summit is to educate those who deal with the regulatory departments as to how the process should be followed to minimize any unnecessary delays in obtaining the required permits and authorizations to proceed with opening or renovating a business here in Hillsborough,” Mayor Frank DelCore said about the event.

The summit begins at 9 a.m. with presentations scheduled by representatives from the various offiices involved, from planning and zoning to the subcode inspectors to the tax office, followed by a Q&A session and breakout sessions with individual departments (register to attend on the EBDC website).

The meeting won't be hampered by anyone needing to drop their kids off at school first—Hillsborough students are out of school this week for spring break.

And according to the National Weather Service, they may be able to spend at least the first day or two of break sledding: yet another winter storm is moving through the area with a possibility of several inches of snow accumulating Monday.
