Readers of all ages will 'unearth a good book' this summer as the Hillsborough Public Library presents its 2013 Summer Reading Clubs! Registration begins June 17 and continues throughout the summer! Our reading clubs include the 'Read With Me Club' (up to entering kindergarten), the 'Dig Into Reading' Kids Club (entering grades K-5), the 'Beneath the Surface' Teen Club (entering grades 6-12), and the 'Groundbreaking Reads' Adult Club (ages 18+). There will be a variety of fun and interesting programs, trivia questions, and raffles all summer long.

The reading club will kick off with a special program at 7 p.m. June 20, with Days of Knights. Join the fun as Sir Kenneth, a knight in shining armor, and his squire as they re-enact a classic medieval fairytale. Throughout the interactive story, kids will learn all about knights, see an exciting sword fight, try on real armor, take pictures with performers, and more.

On display for the month of June are collections of quilts by Debbie Kalenty and the photography Parvathi Kumar.

Widely considered to be Cormac McCarthy's masterpiece and one of the best novels of the 20th Century, Blood Meridian is an epic novel of the violence and depravity that attended America's westward expansion. It brilliantly subverts the conventions of the Western novel and the mythology of the 'wild west.' Based on historical events that took place on the Texas-Mexico border in the 1850s, it traces the fortunes of the Kid, a 14-year-old Tennessean who stumbles into the nightmarish world where Indians are being murdered and the market for their scalps is thriving. There is no cost to attend, but registration is required. Refreshments will be provided.
