Mass Hair Cutting, Student Art Show Coming Up This Week

Planning, zoning boards meet, also.

If you're setting plans for the week ahead, here's some of the upcoming events you'll want to take note of:

Wednesday, Amsterdam School students and teachers will don some new hairdos, as the school holds its 10th Annual Locks of Love Donation Day. More than 60 students, staff and parents will be participating in the program. Over the last nine years, the school has donated over 4,000 inches of hair to the Locks of Love organization.

Later, the zoning board will be meeting in the municipal complex, and on Thursday, the planning board meets. Both boards meet at 7:30 p.m.

Friday, plan to head to the municipal building for the "The Superintendent’s Gallery," a show of student artwork. The show's theme sums it up: Celebrating Excellence in the Arts! The gallery open at 8 a.m., but plan to join the student-guided docent tours from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Live music and displays/demonstrations by the students will also be performed. An awards ceremony is planned for 7 p.m.

And on Saturday, head to the Manville VFW to pitch in for the Operation Shoebox packing event. The group is celebrating eight years of support to troops overseas.
