Hurricane Sandy in Photos: Hillsborough Roads Empty

Residents appear to be heading warnings. Winds picking up, but impact in township minimal through morning and afternoon.

There is much more to come from Hurricane Sandy, and the storm is expected to only get worse, but the visible impact Monday morning and afternoon in Hillsborough appeared to be minimal. However, things are expected to deteriorate as the storm hits land and the eyewall crosses through New Jersey. Hillsborough has made preparations and officials are asking residents to take the necessary precautions.

Most local residents appear to have heeded Gov. Chris Christie's warning and have stayed off the roads. Lowe's in Hillsborough was open Monday and still had some sump pumps and shop vacs in stock, but emergency generators were long gone.

This gallery shows the impact of the storm leading up to about 4 p.m. on Monday as it approached landfall.
