Hillsborough YMCA Draws Hundreds on Day for Healthy Kids

Event showcases center's programs and offers fun, games and information.

The Hillsborough branch of the Somerset Valley YMCA marked Healthy Kids Day Saturday, along with the other local Y branches, drawing about 350 to the center for a variety of activities.

Kids enjoyed games and face painting, while mom and dad could learn about heart safety, donate blood—or check out the Y's facilities.

Healthy Kids is a national initiative to improve the health and well-being of families now and throughout the summer, a time when kids are often less physically active and engaged in learning.

“At the Somerset Valley YMCA, we know parents struggle to keep their kids physically and intellectually active every day. We want to help ensure fewer kids are at risk of childhood obesity and more kids excel in school,” said Karyn Lightcap, interim CEO.  “YMCA’s Healthy Kids Day will get kids moving and learning while also helping families get a jump on creating a healthier summer, and ultimately a healthier future."
