Get Ready for Gingerbread 'House Wars'

How fast can you create a delicious masterpiece? Find out Dec. 9.

Forget HGTV's latest house remodeling show—on Dec. 9, join the fun at the Hillsborough High School Gingerbread Festival.

The festival will feature not only gingerbread houses crafted at home, but also a special "House Wars" competition pitting entrants to see who can assemble and decorate the best ginderbread house using a kit with gingerbread cookies, icing and sweet treats on the spot.

The event scheduled for 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 9 in the Hillsborough High School commons is being sponsored by Weichert Realtors’ Kelly Compher, and is being planned as a fundraiser for the HHS Theatre Club, with prizes awarded for the best projects in both categories.

"We even have a special 'Build It and Bring It—Your School House Rocks' category, which is only open to preschool and elementary school classes," Jayne Mochnacz, who is helping to organize the event, said.

Mochnacz added the festival will include a bake sale, refreshments, live music and entertainment, and “sing-a-longs.” Donations of non-perishable canned goods will be accepted for hurricane relief efforts, also.

Admission is $1 (or $3 for a family), while the contestants fee is $10; $15 for the kit for the House Wars competition.

Hopeful house builders can pre-register online for either competition, or download and complete the registration form attached to this article and return it to the high school attendance office.
