Five Ways to Treat Dad to a Great Escape

This Father's Day, give him something that he really wants.

Sometimes there's just not enough days in the week, but every Wednesday we'll give you an idea of something to do to relax, spend time with family and just take some time for yourself.

And with Father's Day approaching on June 16, we're sharing some things you can do to help make his day special. Here are five things dad really wants for Father's Day:

1. A really good shave. You can treat him to a good, old-fashioned shave at a barber shop, such as Basking Ridge's South Finley Barber Shop, one of the few area shops featuring the service. But a day later, he'll need another one. Why not stop in at Warren's Edgewood Pharmacy and check out the line of quality Anthony for Men products, including shave lotions and creams that make for a smoother shave. You can also check out online supplier The Art of Shaving, which has developed a line of fine razors, blades and lotions.

2. A really fast drive. Does his mouth drop at the sight of a Ferrari? Does he like to drive the family SUV like he's in the Indianapolis 500? Then treat him to a few hours at the Old Bridge Raceway driving a Lamborghini Gallardo, or if he's a fan of "Bond, James Bond," an Aston-Martin, from GT Dream Cars

3. A really big steak. Old Man Rafferty's, in Hillsborough, offers a 14-ounce New York steak; The Grain House, at Basking Ridge's Olde Mill Inn, boasts a 22-ounce aged Ribeye, a steak that's big in portion and big on flavor. Check your favorite steakhouse, or visit a local butcher to get one to grill up yourself—you'll find some mouth-watering choices at Bridgewater's Hind and Fore or Mallery's Grazin' Meats, in Hillsborough.

4. A really quiet Sunday afternoon. Dad may spend a lot of weekend time outside working on the yard, but you know if the Giants were playing, the lawn can go to heck. You don't want to hand the keys to your riding lawn mower to the kids, but you can get some help from professionals—check the Directory listings for landscapers and lawn maintenance, or check with that kid up the street, and get some help.

5. A really close look at vintage planes and cars. The Aviation Hall of Fame of New Jersey will host its annual Wings and Wheels Expo, with vintage aircraft, military vehicles and cars—some of which will be giving rides to those interested. It's at Teterboro Airport, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 15 and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 16.
