Hillsborough Company Teaming to Help Vets

S&G Cleaning Services the latest to join up with Cleaning for Heroes.

Memorial Day approaches every year, and it serves as a reminder to Americans to honor and respect the military veterans who have made sacrifices in the call of duty. In the spirit of the holiday, one local company is teaming up with a non-profit organization to assist local veterans with spring cleaning.

Hillsborough-based S&G Cleaning Services, which , is teaming with Cleaning for Heroes, a non-profit cleaning services organization that has been operating throughout New Jersey since 2010 and provides free housekeeping services to retired and disabled veterans, police officers and firefighters.

S&G Cleaning Services owner Shirley Perlinsky, a native of Brazil, has always admired the men and women of the American armed forces and all they do for their country. When she found out there was a way to give back to the military, Perlinsky jumped at the chance.

“I’ve heard through the Residential Cleaning Association that a member started the Cleaning for Heroes Foundation. This would be a cause very near to my heart,” said Perlinsky. “(In Brazil), you can never sleep with the insecurity and violence and be able to live a peaceful life raising a family, knowing that people are risking their lives for you to be safe.”

“I just want to be able to do something for (veterans), as well,” she continued.

Perlinsky told Patch that she currently has 22 employees lined up for Memorial Day, all of whom will be paid their regular wages to clean the homes of veterans. It is a large charitable undertaking for S&G Cleaning Services; Perlinsky stated that all funds for the project thus far have been contributed entirely by her company.

“We fund everything,” Perlinsky said. “As of today, we have not had any fundraising for the project. It is 100 percent funded by S&G.”

In the end, working with Cleaning for Heroes to put this project together is something much more rewarding than any financial compensation, which is why S&G Cleaning Services has agreed to contribute its time and expertise.

“I’m so proud of the project," Perlinsky said. “To be able to honor those that sacrificed their lives for our safety, it’s an honor.”
