Route 206 Losing Its Greek Flavor

Taste of Crete store closing for a switch in business directions.

A pair of classes slated for this weekend will cap four years of programs and retail sales of Greek foods and specialties at Hillsborough's Taste of Crete store on Route 206.

Owner Esther Luongo Psarakis is shutting the shop to relocate to Edison and focus on the development of her wholesale business, which includes proprietary olive oil, cookies, and other products still being developed.

Psarakis said she had hoped to build a steady retail business at the small store, including a specialty bakery/café, the retail business didn't grow as much as the wholesale opportunities.

Fans of the tasty confections offered at Tatse of Crete can find many of the products in area grocery stores, including some ShopRite and Kings supermarkets.

And it's not too late to sit in on the Magic of Mountain Tea seminar scheduled for Saturday, or Friday's class on making Greek vinaigrette
