Hillsborough Salon Among 200 Top Salons in Survey

Beyond the Fringe earns spot in magazine's survey due to recent growth.

Hillsborough's Beyond the Fringe hair salon has proven to be a cut above most salons, according to Salon Today magazine, which recently listed the salon as one of the Top 200 salons in North America.

The magazine's 16th annual ranking of salons was published in the January 2013 issue, based on applications submitted by the magazine's readers and 25,000 salons nationwide. 

Beyond the Fringe, owned by Donna McCray and Charlie Martin, was recognized for its growth since 2010.

"Throughout the year, we offer several make-up classes and a 'Blow-dry Bootcamp,'" the owners reported to the magazine in an essay on its efforts to grow the business. "These classes not only educate our guests on proper make-up application and styling techniques, but they boost retail sales and encourage our guests to brings their friends and family in for the free event."

The magazine honored applicants in 11 different best practice categories, including advanced education, compensation and benefits, customer service, environmental sustainability, philanthropy, planned profitability, recruitment and training, retail and merchandising, retention and referral programs, and technology, in addition to the growth category.
