Flemington Toy Store Owner Prepping Hillsborough Shop

Boro Toy Shoppe expects to open in October.

So far, a sign in the window in the storefront behind the Dunkin' Donuts at 411 Route 206 (at New Amwell Road) is the only indication the site will become a toy store.

But later this week or early next week, work crews will begin to remove walls and remodel the site in preparation of the opening of The Boro Toy Shoppe, which store supervisor Noelle McGowan said could open about Oct. 1.

"After it's cleared out, we'll have a better idea of when we'll be able to open," McGowan said.

The store is owned by Nick Mosso, who operates the Toy Kingdom store, on Route 31 S. in Flemington. McGowan said the smaller Hillsborough site—about 1,100 square feet as opposed to the Kingdom's 6,000—means the inventory will be very focused.

"We're going to do unique toys," she said. "We'll have crafts, science toys, games—like a specialty toy shop.

"It's going to be a challenge (to fit the inventory), but it will be worth it," McGowan added.

To assist planning the store's product line, McGowan said a Facebook page post is seeking input from fans for a "wish list." Add your comments to help McGowan and the store staff build the inventory that will work best in Hillsborough—although she points out the store won't stock the kinds of toys you can find at WalMart or other chain stores.

McGowan said the store will fill the void left by the closure of The Learning Express store last year, and will offer personalization, gift wrapping and other services.
