New Senior Care Facility Opens in Hillsborough

Ribbon-cutting marked second site in county.

Bridgeway Senior Care & Rehabilitation Center now has a facility in Hillsborough, adding to its presence in Somerset County by giving a sister site to its location in Bridgewater.

This is a move that, according to Bridgeway Community Relations Representative Marlene Smith, will help the center meet the demands of an aging population in conjunction with Avalon Assisted Living, which has already been a fixture in Hillsborough for years, while bettering employment prospects in the county.

“The owners of Bridgeway Senior Care wanted to be able to meet the growing healthcare demands of the aging population while creating a continuum of care with the existing Avalon Assisted Living in Hillsborough, which broke ground six years ago,” Smith said. “With the addition of the new building, they have created two healthcare campuses in central New Jersey, namely Hillsborough and Bridgewater, providing the quality care that has become synonymous with the Bridgeway name and employing over five-hundred healthcare workers.”

The new center, according to an official press release, held its ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday, May 18. The center offers many forms of functional and physical therapy to its patients, including orthopedic, neurological and cardiac rehabilitation, as well as physical, occupational and speech therapies provided by Kessler Core. Bridgeway also has Activities of Daily Living suites to help its patients practice skills like cooking and cleaning, as well as a “Life Skills Gym” with an on-site automobile and grocery aisle for more complex tasks.

Another service of growing need offered at Bridgeway is treatment for dementia and Alzheimer’s, which the center felt was important to emphasize as more is learned about these and other cognitive disorders.

“This will help to meet the ever-growing need for memory care with Alzheimer’s disease, (which is) affecting five million nationally and fifty percent of those over 85 years of age,” Smith said.

Bridgeway, located at 395 Amwell Road, will be hosting an open house for all interested parties twice this week. The open houses will take place on Wednesday, June 13 and Friday, June 15 from 3 to 5 p.m. Those planning to attend are asked to RSVP by calling 908-281-4400.
