Essex Green Movie Theater Up and Running

The theater is now open after 'inclement weather' is said to have knocked out power for nearly a week.

[UPDATED: Wednesday 8:15 p.m.]

West Orange's only movie theater is back up and running.

The , at 495 Prospect Ave., reopened its doors Wednesday after it was forced to close them last Friday due to power outages caused by "inclement weather," according to Ryan Noonan, a spokesperson for AMC.

The theater reopened Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. It will continue to operate during its normal business hours.

Noonan wrote in a Tuesday email he was unable to estimate how much money the theater lost during the theater's unexpected closure.

"We don’t comment on specific theatre performance or revenue ...," Noonan said.

The theater's electrical provider, Public Service Electric & Gas, said in an email to Patch Tuesday evening electrical work had been completed near the theater and power restored.

"Our field personnel said that they opened an electrical panel for the customer at 495 Prospect Avenue [AMC Essex Green]," the spokesperson said in the email, "and that everything was taken care of on our end. We have not received a call from the movie [theater] saying that they are without power. They could possibly have an internal problem."

Calls to AMC Essex Green for comment were not returned.

Anyone who may have bought tickets to the theater through Fandango while the theater was closed can call 1 (866) 857-5191 to get a refund.

There was a reported smoke condition in the theater on Friday evening that the WOFD responded to. They handled the situation along with PSE&G and AMC management.

My wife and I used to be fairly regular attendees at the AMC Essex Green theatres, but since they instituted the dine-in feature, we have not been there once. As far as we are concerned, the theatres have been dark for quite awhile.

Sanford, you should go back. It's quite nice and you don't have to buy the food. It's not required any more. Just get a ticket and enjoy whatever treats you sneak in from the Dollar Store. I will say the food is pretty good but the service is terrible.

See, all that depends. They get Overwhelmed on Friday and Saturday Nights. Go Mid-Week or For a Lunch time showing, making sure there is no big movie "release" and the Service is quite good as is the food, AND at a pretty reasonable price I would say. I LOVE the Fact about Reserved Seats the most. Walk in Last minute. BIG FAN. And I wasn't earlier because of the thought of having to buy food. Hell a 24 oz Stella for $6.00...And Don't Forget that the West Orange Film Festivals ( http://www.facebook.com/groups/182685978621/members / )...outstanding stuff.
