Hillsborough ESY Students Collect School Supplies for Food Bank

The extended school year program is run by the district's department of special services.

Hillsborough extended school year (ESY) students had more than schoolwork on their minds this summer, collecting over 1,000 school supply items to donate to the local food pantry.

More than 130 volunteers collected everything from backpacks and notebooks to crayons and folders, which were delivered by students and teachers to the Hillsborough Food Bank, according to a release from the district.

The collection and field trip were organized "to help students understand concepts such as responsibility, respect, caring and good citizenship," according to the release.

The ESY program is run by the district's department of special services.
