Teen Out to Prove He's 'Hunger Games' Biggest Fan

Grant Gibbs has a chance to enjoy sequel's premiere—but he needs readers' help.

That "Hunger Games" has local fans isn't surprising, but one fan is out to prove he's the biggest fan of all.

And so far, Hillsborough teen Grant Gibbs has shown he's among the top—at least in the Ultimate Fan Catching Fire contest.

"I'm not allowed to die until I have a conversation with (actress) Jennifer Lawrence," Grant said.

Grant entered the contest to win a trip to the Los Angeles premiere of "Catching Fire," a sequel to "Hunger Games," in November, as well as a $1,000 gift card—and was selected as one of 20 finalists.

He submitted a list of 10 reasons why he should be named the "Ultimate Catching Fire Fan,"  including the fact his "The Hunger Games Memes" Facebook fan page has nearly 60k likes. He also included the time he walked in front of the school cafeteria and "did the three finger salute to everyone."

"To my surprise, more than half the room stood up and did it back to me!" he said. "It was a 'Hunger Games' flash mob sort of thing."

And his third reason proving he's the ultimate fan: "I am married to a lifesize cardboard cutout of Katniss Everdeen—there was an actual online live ceremony with over 70 guests watching!"

"People call me crazy for my obsession, but hey, I guess it pays off," he said.

Or at least it could: to win, he needs to collect as many votes on his contest page—follow the links through the Hunger Games Fan page to vote for him. He pointed out fans can vote once each 24 hours, so he hopes lots of people will revisit the page to help him win the trip.
