Young Filmmakers Invited to Enter Somey's Awards

Young Spielberg-wanna-bes can showcase their talents and help local non-profits with an entry in this year's Somey's, the award program for Somerset County students in the fifth through 12th grades launched by the Leadership Somerset County Class of 2011.

The program is now in it's second year, and calls for students to submit video public service announcements focused on a Somerset County based non-profit or government agency. Last year, about 15 videos were submitted, highlighting such local groups as Resource Center of Somerset , Boy Scouts of America, Big Brothers, Big Sisters, Middle Earth, Operations Shoebox, Somerset County Library, Somerset County Parks Commission, Habitat for Humanity, Girls on the Run, and the Humane Society of Somerset County.  

The winning video was made by a group of Montgomery High School students and featured the Resource Center of Somerset and was highlighted at a Somerset Patriots game last spring, and the Resource Center had the video remade professionally by Premier Media. The video was recently named as a Bronze winner in the 33rd Annual Telly Awards.

Cell phone videos are welcomed, as well as more sophisticated productions.
