What To Do When It's Raining

It's not snow. I bet I'm not the only one cheering.

It's raining, it's pouring and at least it's not snow.  The weather might be nasty, but, after a January of weekly storms, slick roads and cold temperatures, it's at least warm enough to avoid the white.  To quote the infamous philosopher Monty Python, "Always Look on the Bright Side of Life", right?

1.You Need to Know to Watch for Flooding: The National Weather Service placed Hillsborough under a flood watch yesterday afternoon, because of rain and melting snow.   The Raritan River and local creeks and streams are expected to see water levels rise.

2.You Need to Know It’s a Regional Thing: The Hillsborough High School Wrestling Team and the Hillsborough High School Hockey team both have important matches today.  The wrestlers will compete in a regional tournament at Hunterdon Central at 5:30 p.m., while the hockey team has the Skyland Cup Finals at 7 p.m. at Bridgewater Sports Arena.

3.You Need to Know Wreathes Aren’t Just For the Holidays: The Hillsborough Public Library will host a story and craft activity for those ages 2-6 from 11-11:30 a.m.  The kids will create friendship wreaths during the activity.  Registration is recommended and can by made by calling the library at 908-369-2200 ext. 24 or through the library website, http://www.somerset.lib.nj.us

4. You Need to Know It’s All About Variety: Amsterdam School hosts its Variety Show tonight, from 7-10 p.m.

5.You Need to Know it’s a Frozen Fiesta: The Environmental Education Center at Lord Stirling Park in Basking Ridge is hosting two winter animal-themed programs today.  The first, Polar Bear Day, is for ages 4-6, costs $9 and concentrates on interesting facts about polar bears.  The second, Frozen Fiesta, is for ages 7-9, costs $11 and involves animals in the southern hemisphere.  Both programs start at 4 p.m. in the Environmental Education Center on 190 Lord Stirling Rd.
