Temple Beth-El Hosts Celebration of Southern Sudan Independence Day

The celebration is open to all.

The local Sudanese community invites neighbors and friends to join with them in celebrating the historic first Independence Day for Southern Sudan on July 9, 2011, in the large social hall at Temple Beth-El, 67 U.S. Route 206, Hillsborough, from 5:30 - 9:00 p.m.

 

There’ll be great food, singing and dancing, as well as speakers from the local Darfur and Sudanese communities.

Independence for Southern Sudan from Sudan becomes effective on July 9, 2011. Independence was decided by a referendum that was held from January 9 -15, 2011. 98.83 percent of the voters voted in favor of independence. The referendum was one of the consequences of the 2005 Naivasha Agreement between the Khartoum central government and the Sudan People's Liberation Army/Movement (SPLA/M).

Temple Beth-El is a Reform Jewish congregation. A member of the Union for Reform Judaism, the temple was founded in 1953 by 15 families. Today, the congregation numbers more than 450 households and offers a variety of cultural, educational, social and spiritual opportunities to its members and to the greater New Jersey Jewish community.
