Storm Shortages

Hurricane Irene left the county with a shortage of events this weekend.

In the wake of Irene, one thing's apparent: there's aren't a whole lot of events happening in and around town.

In some cases, planned events needed to be canceled because of storm recovery. In others, it probably didn't make sense to plan anything because of the long weekend.

Here's what you need to know today:

You Need to Know: The township dump, located on Auten Road, will  accept flood-damaged items in addition to branches and yard debris. The items have to be flood-damaged though.

You Need to Know: There are no fireworks Monday. If you missed our article , the Labor Day fireworks have been canceled due to muddy conditions and a forecast that includes more rain.

You Need to Know: If you're doing your school shopping this weekend, the . Irene damaged the Somerville-based charity's building and stores, making it harder to help homeless county residents—including those displaced by the storm.

You Need to Know: The homeless shelter in the Manville VFW could also use your help. The shelter's housing victims from Manville, and needs toiletries and clothing—specifically men's deodorant, body wash and shampoo. The number there is 908-725-2290.

You Need to Know: If you have an event happening between Sept. 7 and Sept. 12, please let her know about it today.
