'Steps Together' Teaches 5K Participants How To Raise Money For Families In Need

Ever want to run a 5k, raise money for a good cause, or help a local family in need - but didn't know where to start?

Hillsborough based 501(c)(3) organization Steps Together wants to help. The non-profit organization aims to help ease the financial burden for families facing serious medical problems.

Their mission is to “inspire the community to pay their blessings forward and help families facing a medical crisis,” according to Steps Together founder Courtney Newman.

“Instead of having people just sign up, we have an all summer long program where they train with us and we teach them to fundraise,” She added.

Steps Together gets participants set up with fundraising strategies, a web-based fundraising page, and weekly runs to help train for their 5k. This year, the organization has 11 families in the community who they're raising money for.

The goal of Steps Together is to take the fear out of tackling a huge task such as raising money or training for an athletic event, while supporting a good cause.

“Not only will you run your first 5K, but you’ll make a difference in the life of someone local,” Newman said.
