Spooks, Scares and Crowded Aisles

Spooks and scares have nothing on the week before Halloween, if you're not prepared.

What's scarier than the usual ghouls, ghosts and gremlins said to cavort through the streets on Halloween? The site of crowded store aisles, decimated costume wracks and a scramble to find something to wear at the last minute.

Anyone forced to leave Halloween planning to the last minute, can tell tales of cars lined up outside shopping center lots, attempting to purchase costumes. Others can speak of packed stores, long lines and a decimated costume selection.

Though we have a costume store in town—different from a few years ago, when residents would drive to Bridgewater or Manville for their garb— it's still worth avoiding the lines and getting ready early.

Here's where we'll be this week:

Tuesday: Going to the township’s Halloween Party? Say hello to the photographer we’ll have there, and then find yourself on the site!

The Township Committee meets at 7:30 p.m. tonight. As always, Patch will be there.

We sent On the Town out to speak to the contractor who handled the Ditmars-Polhemus wagon house reconstruction, to find out what goes into historic reconstructions. Look for that feature today.

Thursday: Did you know the Somerset Valley Players’ latest show, On Golden Pond, opens tonight? We’ll have a preview earlier in the week.

Saturday: The Hillsborough High School Marching Band hosts its 28 bands at its festival this year. Of course we’ll have someone out for photos of the hometown kids.
