Outdoors Focus of Weekend Activities

Hiking, gardening, the beach ... it's all about outdoors.

It's a good weekend to spend time outdoors, or that's what the activities around town tell me.

Despite crazy-hot temperatures this week, the town's activities are geared toward gardeners, hikers (though there are also mountain biking trails at Sourland Mountain, or so I've heard), nature and more.

Here's what you need to know today:

  1. You Need to Know to Stop and Smell the Roses: The event celebrates the reopening of the rose garden after a renovation project and offers lectures and demonstrations on rose growing and other topics. The event is free and open to all.
  2. You Need to Know About This if You’re a Young Professional: through from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. today. Tickets are $20 at the door, if slots are still available. Water and hiking boots are recommended.
  3. You Need to Know How to be Ready for the Beach: The workshop costs $35 per child, so call 908-281-2433 to register.
  4. You Need to Know It’s All About the Pets: from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. today. In addition to benefiting local rescue groups, there will be barbecue, contests and games and more.
  5. You Need to Know About Bats: The program is held at Lord Stirling Park’s Environmental Education Center, and is free and open to all.
