New Group to Focus on Parenting Books

Come discuss "The Childhood Roots of Adult Happiness" at inaugural Parenthood Book Discussion group.

A new group at the Hillsborough Public Library will begin meeting to discuss books addressing issues confronting today's parents. The group's first meeting is set for 7 p.m. Feb. 10, where Edward M. Hallowell's "The Childhood Roots of Adult Happiness" will be the focus. 

The group will meet bi-monthly through 2014.

Book Sales: 
Did you know that the Friends of the Hillsborough Library have daily book sales?? DVDs, CDs and hardcover books are only $1. Paperbacks, records, children’s books and magazines are only 25 cents! VHS tapes are FREE! February Special: All Children’s Books are 20 cents each!

ESL Conversation Group: 7 p.m. Feb. 3 and Feb. 10.
Sign up for our mixed gender ESL Conversation Group in the Hillsborough Library Conference Room. Ages 18 and older. Must know basic English.
ACA Assistance Services: 1 p.m. Feb. 8 and Feb. 15.
Cognosante Enrollment Assistance Services will be available to answer questions and assist community members with signing up for the Affordable Health Care Act.
Zumba: 7 p.m. Feb. 5 and Feb. 12.
Zumba combines high energy music with unique moves that allow you to dance your way to a fitter you with exciting rhythms.  Join us for an energizing series: Wednesdays at 7 p.m. Feb. 5, Feb. 12, Feb. 19, Feb. 26. As long as you are moving and having fun, there is no wrong way to Zumba!Please remember to wear comfortable clothing and bring water.

A business plan is an essential tool needed to approach a financial institution for financing, or simply to strengthen your own vision.  Combining the most important elements of the business plan, marketing, and finance, this seminar, sponsored by our local SCORE chapter, walks you through the steps involved in producing a successful business plan.
Greening Your Home and Your Wallet: 1:30 p.m. Feb. 8.
Join us as John Beggiato and Bill Dondiego from Boro Green, a community sustainability organization, and a representative from the N.J. Department of Energy's 'Clean Energy Program' answer your questions about conservation, efficiency, and the use of renewable energy and how it can save your money while you live a more sustainable life.

Youth Services Programs from Feb. 10 through Feb. 15:
Monday Morning Playtime:  For parents/caregivers; 10 a.m. Feb. 10.
This program will have different topics of discussion along with recommended resources. Children ages birth through 36 months are welcome, there will be toys for them to play with.  Join us for some great social interaction!
Story Time: Valentine’s Day: Ages 3-6; 1 p.m. Feb. 10.
Help your preschool or kindergarten child get ready to read! Enjoy stories together and build language skills. No registration required! 
Volunteer Opportunity: Get Crafty! Grades 8-12; 3:45 p.m. Feb. 10.
We are looking for reliable teen volunteers to provide assistance during our Get Crafty! programs. Must have great social skills and previous experience with children. Volunteers will earn community service hours for their attendance. Space is limited to 4 volunteers per session!

Creature Comfort Pets: Grades K-2, 4 p.m. Feb. 12.
This is a Creature Comfort Pet Therapy Program! Children will read out loud to a 'Creature Comfort' pet! Each child will get 10 minutes of reading time while a rabbit or dog listens! Online registration is NOT available for this program – call or stop by the Children’s Desk. Please arrive early – if you are late for your time slot you will lose your spot!

Our newest program! Zumba® Kids is the ultimate dance-fitness party where kids rock it out with their friends! This program features music that gets kids movin' and groovin'! (Please wear comfortable clothes and sneakers and bring a water bottle - you will sweat!) Please note: AnSCLS Release/Waiver must be filled out and signed by the parent or the child cannot participate in this program.

Kaplan SAT Practice Test: Grades 9-12; noon, Feb. 15.
This FREE Kaplan Practice Test is designed to prepare students for their exam and offers a great opportunity to get hands-on experience! Bring a #2 pencil, a calculator and a snack (if desired.) Please note: Kaplan sends test results to students in approximately 10 business days.
