Man Fatally Struck By NJ Transit Train Near Somerville Station

Joshua Neli, 18, of Branchburg was fatally struck by a NJ Transit train just before midnight on Wednesday - about three-tenths of a mile west of the Somerville Station.

Preliminary eyewitness accounts have reported that Neil stood on the tracks as the Newark-bound Raritan Valley Line train came toward him without any intention of moving out of its path, according to NJ Transit spokesman John Durso Jr..

The trains conductor made full attempts at an emergency stop, but was unable to make the stop in time. No customers were aboard the train during the incident and no injuries were reported by NJ Transit staff.

The Raritan Valley Line was temporarily suspended as NJ Transit Police investigated the incident, but is now back in service.
