Environmental Fair to Celebrate Being Green

Here's another idea for spending time with family and enjoying the environment.

Your teens are holding a car wash at the high school Saturday. The grandparents volunteered to take the younger children to a movie Sunday afternoon. Your tweens take tap on Wednesday evening. It’s your time. Take it.

Each week, we’ll tell you about one great idea to give you a much deserved break, and make your life a little easier, maybe a whole lot easier.

And for another week in a row, we’re recommending an event that will bring the family together, while also giving everyone a chance to be on their own.

The Bridgewater Township Environmental Commission is holding its annual Environmental Fair at KidsStreet on Commons Way and at the municipal complex. The event will be held Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

With raffles and giveaways galore, the township has prepared a day of activities both for the children and for the parents, including birdhouse painting for kids, a rain barrel workshop for the whole family and a home composting workshop. The event is also featuring a “How to Plant a Seedling” activity and a special tree planting in memory of, and in honor of, a former Bridgewater Environmental Commission member.

Plus, the Roots and Shoots organization from  will present an environmental game show.

Souls 4 Souls will also be collecting shoes to help those affected by natural disasters.

Many organizations will have exhibits at the fair, including Bridgewater Wildlife Management, Bridgewater Shade Tree Board, Somerset County Recycling, Rutgers Environmental Stewardship Program, Washington Valley Garden Club, NJ American Water, Rutgers Cooperative Extension, Somerset County Park Commission and your very own Bridgewater Patch.

Come on out to the fair for lessons in maintaining a green lifestyle.
