Cycling Through Memorial Day Activities

A variety of weekend events focus on different types of bikes.

Whether you're just hitting the parade or going to a round of activities, one thing's clear this weekend: The bikers have you beat.

Yup, it's a weekend for cyclists, motorcycles and other two-wheeled transportation.  With the country's oldest cycling race and at least one motorcycle ride, there are plenty of opportunities to break out of the car conventions.

Here's what you need to know today:

  1. You Need to Know About Memorial Day: The township celebrates Memorial Day today, beginning with a at 8:30 a.m. in the , which is open to all Hillsborough veterans, their spouses and widows. steps off at 10:30 a.m. at the corner of Auten and Triangle Roads today too, and ends at the Municipal Complex.

  3. You Need to Know One Place to Get on Your Bike: The course is between two to ten miles and events begin at 11 a.m. It includes a Big Wheel Race and a trike race, and activities for the kids. The event is free for non-bicyclists, but those cycling will need to pay $15 per bike or $40 per family of four.
  4. You Need to Know A Second Place to Get on Your Bike: .  The race begins at 9 a.m. at Somerville Middle School.
  5. You Need to Know Where to Find Another Type of Bike: The ride begins at Bradley Gardens Fire Department at 24 Old York Road in Bridgewater, and ends at the Dawn Patrol’s club house at 106 Roberts Street in Bridgewater. The ride and picnic costs $15 to attend.
