BoroSAFE To Host Suicide Awareness And Prevention Event At Hillsborough High School

Submitted by Hillsborough Township Public Schools

BoroSAFE (Suicide Awareness for Everyone) will hold its 3rd Annual Suicide Awareness and Prevention event on Saturday, June 14, 2014 from 9:00am – 12:00pm in the Hillsborough High School Auditorium. This event looks to bring community members together and open up a dialog about this difficult-to-discuss mental health issue. It is through public awareness and continued communication that individuals become aware of the resources that are available.

The day will include a special encore performance of the Allegra School of Music and Arts’ play “I Don’t Want to Talk About It”. The play was written by Bradley Hayward and confronts the daily challenges of teenage life, from dealing with parents who just don’t get it, to bullying, rumors, and suicide. The play is directed by Donnetta Bishop-Johnson and stars Emily Josbeno, Niya Roman, Catherine Rommel, Elizabeth Rommel, Bryan Schultz, and Rachel Underberg-Davis.

Following the performance, the student actors as well as local mental health professionals will hold a question and answer session. Local mental health organizations will have information tables set up to provide details on service offerings and assistance. Professional development hours will be provided upon request.
