Cancer Support Community Central New Jersey to Host Wings of Hope

Cancer Support Community Central New Jersey (CSCCNJ) is pleased to announce their fifth annual Wings of Hope event on Saturday, June 7, 2014.  Wings of Hope is a free event open to the public in honor of National Cancer Survivors Day®. The day is a celebration for cancer survivors, an inspiration for those just beginning their cancer journey, a gathering of support for all those affected by cancer and an outreach to the Central New Jersey community.  The event culminates in the release of nearly 150 majestic monarch butterflies to symbolize the “Wings of Hope.”  Individuals can also purchase handmade butterfly tributes that are displayed on screens throughout the event.  Just as the butterfly is a symbol of transformation, CSCCNJ strives to provide hope in the lives of those affected by cancer.

Additionally, the Spirit of Courage award will be given to Diane S. Naar, Executive Director of the Jewish Federation of Somerset, Hunterdon and Warren Counties and a founding board member of CSCCNJ.

“Diane is a founding Board member who embraced the vision of CSCCNJ from the very beginning,” said Executive Director, Amy Sutton.  “Not only has she gone through an amazing and inspiring journey of her own with cancer, but she has been an advocate for our organization in a variety of ways, from fundraising to awareness.  Diane embodies the Spirit of Courage and we are so pleased to be able to honor her.”

For a donation of $10 (small) or $25 (large) the name of a loved one(s) will be inscribed on individual handcrafted butterflies which will be attached to flowing fabric proudly displayed at the event. These butterflies will be available to be taken home.

Attendees can also participate in the Walk for Hope, a one mile walk starting at Cancer Support Community on the morning of the event. Registration is $20 per adult, $15 per student, $10 per child, and 5 and under is free.  A family rate for $50 is also available (2 adults and 2 children t-shirts will be given).

In addition to the butterfly release and walk, children of all ages can participate in a drumming circle, bubble blowing, crafting, as well as face painting. These community activities are free of charge. A basket auction will also be offered, all proceeds going to support CSCCNJ’s free program of support for all those affected by cancer in Central New Jersey.
