The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for Somerset County with 2 to 4 inches of snow expected by Thursday morning. The Somerset County senior centers in Hillsborough, Manville, Montgomery, Quail Brook, Raritan, Warrenbrook and the Senior Wellness Center in Bernards will be closed Wednesday. A town hall meeting with Congressman Leonard Lance originally planned for 5pm tonight has been rescheduled to Feb. 23, due to winter weather, according to a release from the congressman's office. in addition, the township canceled its Zoning Board of Adjustment meeting, which had been set for 7:30pm tonight. The new meeting will take place from 6p.m. to 8p.m. Feb. 23, in the Municipal Court Room at the Hillsborough Municipal Building. Utility companies are warning customers to be prepared for the second round of winter's latest storm that is expected to produce as much as three-quarters of an inch of icy glaze by late Wednesday morning. The storm has closed all Hillsborough Public Schools on Wednesday. Hillsborough Police reported Clawson Avenue was closed due to down wires at about 8 a.m., and also reported Brook Drive at Mountain Road was closed due to low power lines around 7 a.m. Police also closed Longhill Road and Meadowbrook Drive for downed wires at 9:35 a.m. Longhill Road was opened again at 11:25 a.m. and …
Hillsborough Schools will be closed Thursday as about a foot of snow piled up by daybreak. The district initially announced on Wednesday night that schools would have a delayed opening after an early dismissal on Wednesday that cancelled sports and after-school activities. In addition, schools were closed at least one day during each of the past two weeks because of inclement weather. The district now all has used all three of its snow days this year. If additional dates are used, the district must make up the extra days on Feb. 21, April 18 and April 25.
