Where Do You Eat Outside in Hillsborough?

Here's a list of places where you can enjoy a meal while you feel the breeze and soak up some sunshine.

Cafe Piazza offers both, with pizza and Italian fare served in the shady sidewalk in front. Offers muffins, mini quiches and other light refreshments, and a lunch menu that includes salads, panini sandwiches, homemade soups, healthy snacks and whole fruits.  Famous for their fries and free peanuts, Five Guys has a few outside tables for dining. Burgers and hot dogs are the main fare here, but you can get a veggie …

Local SAT Tutor Recommends Students Learn Their Way Around Tests

Knowing the ins and outs of test's sections can be a key to a better score, Susan Alaimo says.

More than 5,000 students from the Hillsborough area all have something in common: they all prepared for the dreaded S.A.T. exam with a local course offered by S.A.T. SMART,  founded by Hillsborough resident Susan Alaimo back in the spring of 1995.  “Just a few weeks after the birth of my youngest child, I offered the first S.A.T. SMART course to 10 students in an office in the K-Mart shopping center,” Alaimo said. “S.A.T. SMART kept expanding, moving first to a conference room in the Days Inn Hotel, and then to the Hillsborough Municipal Building and Immaculata High School where about 300 students are prepared each year for their P.S.A.T. and S.A.T. exams.   “As the S.A.T. SMART program grew, so did my four children and my youngest, …

7 Ways to Make Landscaping Pay Off

Tips to get the most out of improvements to your yard.

Submitted by Owen Zukovich The photo featured with this article shows the backyard of a client served by Sterling Horticultural Services, and is an excellent example of how landscaping can add value to a home.  How much value? Studies show that professional landscaping can improve the value of a residential property by 5 percent to 15 percent (Virginia Tech and Clemson University). These studies say that the top factor was the sophistication of the design, and most realtors agree.  Sandra Laughlin of Coldwell Banker in Mendham says that buyers are looking for designs that integrate decks and patios into an outdoor lifestyle. And her associate, Betty Kiser, recently wrote “Front Paths Donʼt Lie,” an article that highlights the importance of…

5 Cars

5 Cars Featured in the Movies

Here are several cars that had versions in movies over the years.

If you’re looking for a great new ride to get your day started off just right, we’ve got some vehicles being sold right around the corner. Movies and cars go together like, well, two things that go together really well. Recently, we saw "Fast and Furious 6" top the box office—it's a movie where the cars are almost like another character, and it has been reported that about 300 were used in the making of the film (each time one blew up, another was needed). So because we do live in a pop culture obsessed world, this week we focus on five cars sold in the area that are versions of ones that were featured in movies—maybe you too can feel part of the entertainment culture. 1. 2002 BMW M3 — Used — $25,999 From Cars.com: One of the vehicles …

Stores Closing, Opening at Bridgewater Commons

There are big changes ahead for the mall—what do you think of them?

A number of stores have closed in the Bridgewater Commons Mall, some are moving to different areas and yet another group are opening in the coming year. In the recent months, Bridget’s Irish Cottage has relocated to Westfield, while Joe Fresh, Build-a-Bear Workshop and Wet Seal have all closed down. “Stores that have closed recently have all closed for varying reasons,” said Amy Knorr, marketing manager for the mall. “I can tell you that most vacant spaces, with the exception of one or two, are spoken for, meaning they are in lease negotiations.” The next store to open, Knorr said, is Sephora, which will open June 13 in its expanded space on the lower level of the mall. Also opening this year is House of Hoops and Eddie Bauer. In addition…
