Sugar Land, Texas–The Sugar Land Skeeters (18-25) defeated the Somerset Patriots (20-24) 5-2 Sunday night from Constellation Field. The Patriots snapped their four game winning streak while the Skeeters picked up their first win against the Patriots in eight tries this season.
In the bottom of the first inning second baseman Dominic Ramos hit an RBI single to give the Skeeters a 1-0 advantage.
In the top of the third inning the Patriots scored a pair of runs to take a 2-1 lead. Third baseman Dan DeGeorge ripped an RBI double to left field while center fielder Jonny Tucker squeaked an RBI single through the right side.
The Skeeters tied the game at 2-2 in the home half of the fifth inning as designated hitter Manny Mejia's groundout evened the score.
In the bottom of the seventh inning the Skeeters would take the lead on a bases loaded walk drawn by right fielder Jason Lane that was issued by reliever Carlton Smith to make the score 3-2.
The Skeeeters would add insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth inning as Ramos tallied another RBI single expanding the lead to 4-2. The Skeeters would add one more run on Mejia's RBI single making the score 5-2 which would be the final.
The 2012 Somerset Patriots season presented by Ford will continue on the road until Thursday, June 14 when the Patriots return home to take on the York Revolution at TD Bank Ballpark at 7:05 p.m. The game includes a special Flag Day Celebration and Patriots Cinch Sacks (first 1,500) courtesy of Operation Shoebox New Jersey.
