Camden, N.J.–The Somerset Patriots (13-12) squandered two different leads and lost to the Camden Riversharks (11-14) 5-4 on Wednesday afternoon at Campbell’s Field. The two teams split this mini two-game series in Camden, New Jersey.
In the top of the first inning Patriots third baseman Freddy Sandoval hit an RBI single to right field to drive in center fielder Jonny Tucker to give the Patriots a 1-0 lead.
In the top of the fourth inning Patriots first baseman Jesse Hoorelbeke slugged a two-run home run (5) to straight away center field to give the Patriots a 3-0 advantage.
In the bottom of the fourth inning Riversharks shortstop Jake Eigsti recorded an RBI ground out to put the Riversharks on the board making the score 3-1.
In the bottom of the sixth frame, Eigsti laced a two out, two RBI double down the left field line that tied the game at 3-3.
In the top of the seventh inning Sandoval picked up his second RBI of the contest with a sacrifice fly to left that scored shortstop Dan DeGeorge to make the score 4-3 in favor of the Patriots.
In the ensuing half inning the Riversharks would take their first lead of the game on a two run single by third baseman Marquez Smith. That hit proved to be the difference as the Riversharks took a 5-4 lead and never looked back.
The 2012 Somerset Patriots season presented by Ford will continue tomorrow when the Patriots return home to take on the Camden Riversharks at TD Bank Ballpark at 11:05 a.m.
