Jr. Raiders Varsity, JV Take Down Phillipsburg

Junior Varsity (Grades 5-6)

It was a nice bounce-back win for the Jr. Raiders JV Team (5th & 6th grades) on Saturday night at Hillsborough High School as they defeated the Phillipsburg JV team by a score of 34-6. The Jr. Raiders displayed a balance they’ve been seeking. Rushing for a total of 185 yards and scoring 5 Touchdowns, the Jr. Raiders offense was lead by QB Matt Popaduik with his first TD pass of the season, Alex Marsh, recipient of that TD pass, and the strong running of Dylan Boczon (80 yards, 2 TDs), Ryan Gemignani (57 yards and a TD) and Chris Zickert (48 yards and a TD).

The defense was just a strong in pitching a shut out of sorts themselves (PBurg’s TD was on a Kick Return). A swarming Jr. Raiders defense held the Jr. Stateliners to just 15 yards rushing and 20 yards passing. Echoing the balance of the offense, Boro received strong contributions from all three levels of defense –  linebackers Ryan Gemignani (5 tackles, 1 for loss), Michael Swetz (4 tackles, 2 for loss) and Dylan Boczon (3 tackles, 1 for loss) led the way. Cornerback Matt Michinard had the team’s first interception of the year, and the line was once again paced by Tommy Zdroik (2 tackles, both for loss), Norm Washington (3 tackles) and Jaden Bailey (2 tackles, 1 for loss). Game MVP’s for JV were Dylan Boczon for the Offense and Tommy Zdroik for the Defense.

Varsity (Grades 7-8)

In the September 15th Varsity game (7th & 8th grades), the Jr. Raiders faced the Phillipsburg Stateliners at Hillsborough High School.  The Jr. Raiders earned their second win of the season by defeating the Stateliners by a score of 26-14.   Kyle Kauffman had 200 all-purpose yards and 2 TDs, including a 99 yard kick-off return that helped seal the victory for Hillsborough.  The Hillsborough Jr. Raiders put up 93 yards rushing and 105 passing.  Jackson Parham had 1 catch for 21 yards and a TD.  Josh McDevitt had 1 catch for 44 yards, Samari Springs had 2 catches for 20 yards, and David Amankwaa had 1 catch for 20 yards.  Amankwaa also returned a punt 60 yards for a TD.  Skyler Springs was 3 for 3 passing for 41 yards, 1 TD and Joe Schultz was 2 for 8 passing for 64 yards.  Defensively the Jr. Raiders forced 4 turnovers on interceptions by Joe Schultz, Jackson Parham, Josh McDevitt and Jeff Alboum.  Luke Yakely, Kyle Kauffman, and Jeff Alboum led the defense in tackles.  Game MVP for Varsity was Kyle Kauffman.
