Hillsborough Duke Cheerleading Squads Sweep First at Championships
On Saturday, October 20, 2012, the Hillsborough Dukes Cheerleading squads traveled to Fanwood High School to compete in the 2012 Mountain Valley Conference Championship. The 2012 MVC Championship participating towns included Bridgewater-Raritan, Delaware Valley, Flemington, Hillsborough, Maplewood-South Orange, Montgomery, Phillipsburg, Somerville, South Plainfield, Washington Rock and Watchung Hills. The Hillsborough Dukes were represented by the Flag, Mitey Mite, Jr. Pee Wee, Pee Wee, and Midgets Squads. The MVC Championship provided for a role reversal as the Hillsborough Dukes Football players and coaches came out to the competition with banners, smiles, cheers, face and hair painted in support of their cheerleaders.
The MVC Championship is the first step to advancing for a chance to participate in 2012 Pop Warner National Cheer and Dance Championship in Orlando Florida in December. The Championship will be celebrating its 25th Anniversary this year.
The Hillsborough Dukes Flag Squad entertained the crowd of over 1000 with an exhibition of their cheer routine on Saturday, to show off all the hard work they have put in since practice began in the beginning of August.
The Hillsborough Dukes Mitey Mite Squad also shined as they performed an exhibition of their routine. The Mitey Mite squad will be going to Orlando in December to participate in the 2012 Pop Warner Mitey Mite weekend. They were excited to be chosen to represent the Mountain Valley Conference.
The Hillsborough Dukes Jr. Pee Wee, Pee Wee, and Midgets Squads all placed First in their division, and have earned the right to advance on to the Eastern Region Qualifiers competition. Qualifiers will be held on Sunday, November 4, at Sun Bank Arena in Trenton. The top teams from the qualifiers will move on to the Eastern Region Finals Competition which will be held the weekend of November 17-18, at Sun Bank Arena. The Eastern Region Finals has squad representation from New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland and Washington D.C. The top two squads in each division earn the trip to compete at the 2012 Pop Warner National Cheer and Dance Championship in Orlando, December 3-7.
