Woodfern Principal Dons Many Hats to Mark Students' Reading
Gives two-week assignment for students to achieve.
Woodfern Elementary School Principal Steven Kerrigan was thrilled to pick a zany reproduction of a Dr. Seuss hat to wear and also “grow” some green hair in response to students making reading a priority over the last two weeks!
On March 1, a special assembly featuring a multimedia reading of Dr. Seuss’ book, "The Sneetches," kicked off a two week time frame during which students promised to read, “each day and each night.”
On March 15, Mr. Kerrigan presented each homeroom with a certificate verifying their seussational participation in the “Woodfern Challenge.” Over this same period, students had been bringing in gently used books from home. Under the guidance of Corinne Siegel, Reading Specialist, and Pamela Pedersen, Reach teacher, students then attended the school’s first Book Swap held this same day.
Word in the halls was the "Cat in the Hat" was proud to “tip his hat” to the entire Woodfern School community.
