Residents may have been prepared for the power outage that followed Superstorm Sandy, but no one anticipated the gas rationing which was instituted for 10 days. Lines of people trying to buy gas created a sight we've never seen before—and hope to never again. Reader Daryl T. Meek provided this shot of the lines at the QuickChek for our Pics and Clips Gallery.

It's said a picture is worth a thousand words, and in the case of news photos, we'd say sometimes even more.

Looking back on 2012 in Hillsborough, we found a number of poignant, insightful and sometimes beautiful photos that captured not only the top news stories of the year but sometimes also a moment in time.

Great choice for the gas lines photo taken by Daryl T. Meek. It's not an event we wish to relive, but the photo captures some of the unbelievability of Superstorm Sandy.
