Teen Airlifted After SUV Hits Concrete Bridge
Accident occurred on Willow Road near Hillsborough Road Thursday night.
A 16-year-old passenger needed to be extricated and airlifted to the hospital after an SUV struck a concrete bridge structure on Willow Road and rolled over several times near Hillsborough Road Thursday night.
The accident occurred shortly after 9 p.m., as the vehicle was traveling north on Willow Road at a high rate of speed, police said. The 17-year-old driver, of Princeton, lost control of the 2004 Mercury Mountaineer as it crossed Hillsborough Road, police said.
The driver was able to get out of the vehicle, and was taken by Hillsborough Rescue Squad to Robert Wood Johnson Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries, police said.
The passenger was trapped and needed to be extricated by Hillsborough Fire Department and Rescue Squad volunteers and was flown to Robert Wood Johnson Medical Center, police said.
The passenger, a resident of Woodbridge, suffered head injuries in the accident.
Police are continuing to investigate the accident.

Did not mean to be rough. I was just surprised to see spelling mistakes from a source such as The Beacon. I imagine their newspaper (which I enjoy) has spell check and proof readers. I don't think the internet should be treated with any less care than a news print.

That intersection is part of my daily commute. I would guess you’d have to be doing more than 100 MPH to lose control over that little bump. Teenagers really need to understand that experience is the meanest teacher of all, because first it delivers the consequences of its lesson, and then the knowledge!

I agree. We live near there and they had to have been really speeding. My daughters were both at practice that night and they arrived on the scene seconds after it happened. Both of them were hysterical when they got home. Had they not made the decision to stay a few extra minutes after practice, that car could have rolled right into them. Thank God there weren't any other cars involved! I hope the kids are going to be ok. As a Mom, I cannot imagine what their parents must be going through.

What bridge structure on Willow Rd north of Hillsborough rd? There have been fatalities at that intersection before. I though 17 year olds were legally forbidden to drive other, unrelated, 17 year olds, at night, or not?

There is a concrete structure going over either a stream or a sewer. The curfew for 17 year olds is 11 PM and they are allowed one passenger who isn't related.

Use Google Map Street view. Go to 427 Willow Rd, and you’ll see it on both sides of the road. One side has a chain link fence around it. It appears to be a small stream crossing. It only sticks out above the ground by a foot or two.
